What's the best way to send analog audio signals over longer distances than stereo patch cables?

I want to send my computer's audio output to the stereo in the next room (about 25 ft). If I used a super long audio cable, I assume the signal would degrade too much. Is there a device that converts the audio to another format (e.g. Ethernet), then back to audio at the other end? Or how else could I accomplish this?

Actually 25 ft is not too long. I doubt you will hear any degradation. You are using shielded cable I assume. Another way would be to convert it to balanced line, then un convert it at your stereo. Yes, there are some devices where you can convert it to CAT 5 Ethernet but now you are going to spend some money. I would try it like you have it first. Then go from there

I have get a flat panel panasonic plasma 42 inch 42-inch TH-42PZ85U, comes with 1080P, I dont hold my Xbox 360 HDMI cables all the same. To make the query harder, what if I'm constrained by Best Buy (I've got more or less $300 in grant certificates!)? At this price continuum, I am considering 32"-37" 720p LCDs, generally. Getting audio from an HDMI dvd player connected to a DVI tube?

GREEN tv??
I will be getting my dad's huge big screen TV soon, but it have some issues. When watching cable, it will sometimes be green, but other times, it will be fine. I haven't noticed it while watching a DVD, but I could be wrong. But it's probably not the cable because my parents hold a TV and cable in their room and it's never green, but they do hold a different "box" than the one with the big TV. Half the picture is gone on my big peak tv?
I have a 2002 APEX reverse projection tv. 50% of the picture is gone, completely black. Spliting the screen surrounded by half are red, blue and green wavey lines. LCD Tv only has COAX audio output. Stereo only has Red and White cable Input. What can I do?

So I just bout this Element Tv. My old Tv had the standard Left and Right (Red and White) Audio cable input that allowed me to plug my iPod dock (Sharp) into the TV and have great sound. The iPod dock does not take COAX. I was wondering if there is a way that I can go from a COAX to a Red and White (I believe it's an RCA plug). Any suggestions?

I did some research on it, and there is no way to convert a digital coaxial signal to a Red and White RCA signal.

Introduction to Home Theatre Audio

Many filmmakers say that what's on the screen is only half the movie, the other half is to be found in the soundtrack, carefully crafted by talented composers and musicians to elicit emotions of excitement, fear, sadness and joy in the viewer. Once of the major benefits of watching moves on DVD or hi-def formats is the availability of faithful reproductions of the multi-channel sound that can, when fed through a reasonable home system, sound even better than in many modern movie-theatres.

When most consumers go down to the store and pick up a big new flat screen plasma or LCD TV, they may think that they are all set and ready to go. In fact, the sound provided by even an expensive top-of-the-range TV is incredibly limited, providing little or no low-frequency response, producing only a flat, distorted version of the movies music, and generating little or no directionality. If they are good at anything, it is producing clear, audible dialogue, but that's pretty much it.

Modern movie soundtracks contain so much more information; they contain multiple channels so the viewer perceives the sound to be coming from a particular direction, such as a plane flying overhead, or dialogue coming from left or the right. They also contain low-frequency information, to reproduce deep bone-shaking sounds such as explosions or rumbling engines. To be able to access and hear all this extra information you need a dedicated home theatre audio system.

The basic home theatre audio system consists of an amplifier and multi-channel speaker set. The job of the amplifier is to decode and then amplify the multiple audio tracks present on the disc. To do this, it needs to be connected to the DVD or Blu-Ray player by a data-cable. A fiber-optic digital audio cable (also known as a TOS-link cable) will be needed for DVD's, but to decode next-generation hi-def audio will require a HDMI cable connection. The HDMI cable also carries the video stream, so most amplifiers will have a HDMI out socket, allowing the video information to continue on to the TV or projector.

In terms of power, a quality separate amplifier be marked somewhere in the 80-100 watt range, which is plenty for watching a movie in the average family home. Beware amplifiers that are built into DVD players, or into a speaker set, they are usually underpowered and will perform poorly. The most demanding audio signals to reproduce are the low-frequency type; so many speaker-sets will have "active" sub-woofers, which have small dedicated amplifiers built in.

Speakers for home-cinema can be purchased in packages of matched sets, or individually, allowing you to mix fronts from one manufacturer with rears from another. In general, purchasing a set of matched speakers is the best option for beginners and will produce a very good sound. Unlike regular stereo speakers, home cinema speaker-sets are generally split into dedicated low and mid/high frequency speakers, with the sub-woofer speaker handling the low-frequency sounds by itself. This works because it is very difficult to detect the direction of low-frequency sounds, so it does not matter where in the room the sub-woofer is placed. By contrast the direction of mid and high frequency sounds is easier to detect, so speaker-placement is key, with left/ right speakers best positioned level with the screen and widely spaced apart, the central speaker positioned directly beneath the screen, and the rear speakers positioned diagonally facing the viewer from behind. What is the easiest way to get youtube videos in stereo high def audio and video?

I have so many videos I want to post on youtube, but it always compresses them. I use windows movie maker to make it a wmv file, what is the best way to lower the resolution and the bit rate to meet youtube's expectations so it doesn't shrink it?

I'm really not sure, but in your description tell people to put at the end of the URL "&fmt=18" This makes everything High Definition, I hope that helps!

The complete guide to Car Audio Installation Accessories

There are numerous accessories that are available for your car stereo. Some of them are key such as RCA cables and others are elective like wiring harnesses.

RCA Cables:
These are the cables required used to transfer pre-amp (line level) signals. Usually, you use this kind of cable for unamplified signals such as the connection between your head unit and amp or crossovers/eqs. Look for appropriate thickness and shielding. The end connectors should be strong enough to prevent breakage from stress. There is a notion that more expensive the cable, better the sound quality. However do not spend more than $1/foot. You may have to spend more to get cables immune to noise if that is a problem in your car.

Speaker Cables:
When the line level signal from the head unit is amplified it becomes much stronger and requires thicker cable to carry it. This is even more pronounced for subwoofer wiring. Use something between 9 gauge and 1415 gauge wiring for subwoofers, nothing smaller. A lot of current has to flow through those wires. For tweeters and midranges thickness is less critical but still key to prevent leakage and contamination from outside sources.

Power Distribution Blocks:
Power distribution blocks make wiring easier. You can run one thick power cable from the battery to the distribution block and from there you can use its multiple outputs for each component. A related item is a new battery terminal which allows easy connection of your extra power wire on the battery for the car stereo.

Capacitors:
Music is dynamic and its power requirements differ. Your car's electrical system may not be able to keep up with these variations in demand. A "stiffening" capacitor can solve this problem by providing greater storage capacity for those high power transients.

Wiring Harnesses:
A wiring harness is for you if you plan to replace your factory head unit but still want to be able to reinstall it. These are specially designed for each type of car and allow you to disconnect your stock radio and connect a new head unit without removing your original wiring. The wiring harness plugs into your existing wiring and allows you to connect a new head unit to the harness.
