will an S-video cable work for an HDTV?

I'm hooking up a graphics card to use my HDTV as my monitor. The card manual states that there are S-video cables and HDTV out cables. One has 7 prongs the other has 9-10. Would that be the reason my TV goes to black/blank after the windows booting screen? The graphics card only has an S-video port, should I look for one with the HDTV out port?

FYI, S-Video cannot transmit HD video signals. You will NOT be able to take advantage of the high-definition resolution of your HDTV if you use S-Video.

S-video is a holdover from the old days of the big vacuum-tube low-resolution standard-definition TVs. It jumbles all of the color signals into one Chroma channel and is incapable of resolutions any higher than 1024x768.

You need to use your HDTV's HDMI ports if you want to take full advantage of your HDTV. HDMI can be connected to a graphics card's DVI port by using a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
