How to run tv audio through my stereo?

I'm trying to get the sound on my tv to play through my stereo. I hook up rca cables going from the red and white audio output on my tv to the red and white audio input on my stereo. I turned on the stereo and changed it to the setting where I have the cables connected but it still won't work.

I looked through the tv audio menu to see if there was an option I need to change but I tried everything and nothing works.

PLEASE HELP

check to see if there is an option on your stero.. cd ... raido.. check to see if there is a button audio... check where the connection go to your stero if there is a name next to it and make sure if there is that the name... check if that name has a button and make sure that is pressed..
normally it is labled audio.. cd in etc...
